Photovoltaics: Design & Installation Manual
315 pages published by Solar Energy International, Carbondale, CO

This book is by far the most informative photovoltaic book I have ever read. Solar Energy International's week long PV Design & Installation class ($600) covers all the information in this book. This book teaches you everything you need to know to design, size, install and maintain a successful photovoltaic solar electric system for stand alone or grid tied use.

It contains an overview of electricity and electrical theory. It goes in depth into the various components- modules, charge controllers, batteries, and inverters. It has chapters and worksheets on how to size a system to make sure you always have power when you need it. There's information on site analysis and solar insolation data for over 300 sites around the world. With insolation data you can find out how much sun and how many sun hours there are in a given region during a given month, very important for system sizing.

I highly recommended this book to anyone wanting to know more about photovoltaics or for anyone wanting a great reference book handy.

There are other books that are more technical and cover more specific applications, but for an overall coverage of all things photovoltaic this book cannot be beat.
