IOTA DLS Chargers

The DLS series power converter/battery charger from IOTA Engineering converts 120 volts AC to lower voltage DC. The IOTA DLS battery charger will maintain the battery, delivering its full-rated current when needed. Over time, as the battery nears its full capacity, the converter will float-charge the battery to prevent self-discharge of its cells. To do a faster charge there is a jumper plug that you can plug into the jack on the front of the IOTA to raise the output voltage about 1 volt.

I have used the IOTA DLS 45 amp 12 volt to charge batteries and it worked pretty well. They work especially well with the optional IQ4 option that turns it into a full 3 stage battery charger. The IQ4 is available as an addition or an integrated option. IOTA DLS chargers work very well when powered from a generator, unlike some other solid state chargers.

They have a rather short AC cord on them so you will most likely need an extension cord and the higher output models need a 120 VAC 20 amp receptacle. The battery connections accept up to 2 gauge cable.

Near the AC cord is a small hole with a sticker covering it, if you carefully remove the cover there is a small trim pot that you can adjust the output voltage with. I was able to adjust the output on mine from approx. 11 volts to just over 16 volts. I do not know if this voids the warranty or not but sometimes you need a slightly higher voltage. IOTA DLS chargers have a 2 year warranty.

A word of caution: To remove the 2 fuses next to the battery terminal you must first loosen the screw between the 2 fuses, this screw tightens a clamp on the fuse blades to ensure a good electrical connection, if not loosened you WILL break the fuses trying to remove them. Also IOTA DLS chargers seem to be rather sensitive to moisture and dampness. All the ones I've seen with problems appear to have gotten moisture or water in them. It seems even being subject to high humidity and moisture, not necessarily direct water contact can cause problems.

Overall they are extremely good chargers, lightweight, well designed, and they deliver their full rated output or slightly more. I saw 46.7 amps output on my 45 amp when hooked to 2 large DEAD batteries.
