Sunny Island 4248U Inverter Charger

The Sunny Island 4248U Inverter provides a continuous power output of 4200 watts and takes 48 volts DC in. That's enough power to power most households with power to spare. Large loads such as water pumps and refrigerators can be easily powered by the Sunny Island 4248U Inverter. This inverter operates nearly silent. The optional SMA "GenMan" (generator management box) provides advanced control of even the most basic generators.

The internal battery charger can supply up to 100 Amps to the battery when running in charge mode. Switching time from charge to invert mode is an incredibly fast 0.02 seconds, so every load, even your computers will stay on-line. A transfer relay with a pass through rating of 60A at 120V is also included. Two Sunny Island 4248's may be paralleled to support 240Vac split-phase load centers. Once installed, the Sunny Island 4248U Inverter will run with basically no maintenance for years to come. With its state-of-the-art software and non-volatile memory which means you can adjust it and set it up and the settings are stored forever, you can program it and set it up in the shop and install it in the field and it's ready to go.

One of the coolest features of the SMA Sunny Island 4248U Inverter is its ability to create a 'mini grid' in off grid remote areas. The Sunny Island can power the grid in a small community. Then each residence or building can have it's own SMA Sunny Boy grid tied inverter tied to the Sunny Island's 'grid'. This way each building can generate power and it feeds the grid for the whole community all based of the Sunny Island's AC output that creates the power grid. At night time or periods of little sun the the SMA Sunny Island 4248U still powers the grid but without the support of any SMA Sunny Boy's. In this situation, if more power is needed you can run a generator and have it transferred through the Sunny Island.

As with all SMA products, the Sunny Island is an awesome piece of equipment. With built in DC disconnect\175 amp breaker it's easy to install and not too big being about 16x24x10 inches and just under 90 pounds. The one I have experience with is well built and performs flawlessly. It is a little more expensive than most off grid inverters, but its capabilities are more advanced than any other inverter on the market. It may be much more inverter than the average user needs right now, but in the future the added features could come in extremely useful.
