The X-240 Transformer from OutBack has three configurations in which it can be used.
First: As a step up transformer from 120VAC to 240 VAC to power 240 loads from a single inverter.
Second: As a step down transformer for balancing a 240VAC generator while charging through a single 120 VAC inverter input.

The X-240 is rated for 4000 watts and comes with a dual pole 25 amp circuit breaker. If used with the optional fan to keep it cool, its capacity increases to 6000 watts and you will need to install a 35 amp breaker.
The X-240 is well made and quiet for a transformer of this size. It produces a mild hum and I have never heard one be annoying or buzz too bad. It is designed to be mounted in the OutBack PS2AC or PS4AC power system, but I'm sure it could be mounted in other enclosures if needed.
There are four wires coming out of the X-240 a black, a red and 2 white. Each is clearly marked and if you follow the wiring diagram from OutBack it is easy to install.
The X-240 does its job well, fits into the OutBack Power System, and I have never seen one fail or have any problems. If you have an OutBack Power Panel and need to balance 2 inverters, or step up or step down voltage then seriously consider the X-240.
