These can be used with grid tied systems or with 24 volt nominal off grid systems.

The construction and quality is absolutely superb. The frame is clear anodized and looks good. The cells are evenly spaced and well aligned. The cables coming off the back of the module are of good quality and have MC connectors so wiring connections are simple and modules can be wired in series incredibly easy. Sometimes you may run across a module identical to this but branded with SAPC Schott Applied Power Corp. SAPC had Sharp manufacture quite a few modules for them with their name on them. The SAPC modules are exactly the same as the Sharp 165.

One minor thing that seems like it could maybe present a problem at some point. The very back layer of the module, the heat shrunk plastic seems somewhat thin. I have never seen a failure or problem arise from it but it seems like the weakest part of the module. Just my $0.02.

These modules work extremely well with grid tied systems with voltages open circuit up to 600VDC. They also work great with off grid systems using the MX60 step down MPPT charge control, or any standard 24VDC nominal battery system and suitable charge control.

Sharp is one of, if not the largest manufacturer of PV modules in the world. They didn't reach that status with a bad product. Sharp has been around for years and their modules carry a 25 year warranty. You can be sure that the Sharp NE165-U1 is a great module ready to serve your needs well for years to come.
